Newport Oregon Fishing (Yaquina Bay, Bar & Offshore)
Newport is the heart of the central Oregon coast — Yaquina Bay crabbing, world-class bottomfishing and lingcod off the reefs, summer albacore tuna offshore, and salmon and halibut in season. This guide covers the Yaquina Bay bar, tides and what's biting.
Yaquina Bay bar & tides
Check the live Yaquina Bay bar status and slack-high crossing window before you head out. Newport's bar is generally friendlier than the big river bars, but always confirm USCG restrictions.
Crabbing & bottomfish
Drop pots off the South Beach docks or in the lower bay for Dungeness crab, and run to the reefs for lingcod, rockfish and cabezon — Newport is one of Oregon's most reliable bottomfish ports.
Tuna, salmon & halibut
In late summer albacore tuna show up on the warm offshore breaks; watch the SST maps. Salmon and Pacific halibut open in season — check current ODFW seasons and bag limits before you keep one.
