Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Oregon Angler ("we," "us," or "the app") is an independent app built by an Oregon angler to help people fish Oregon's coast, bays and rivers. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the app you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google.
Payment information. Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles payment data under its own security and privacy standards. We store only your subscription status and Stripe customer/subscription identifiers.
Location information. The map, GPS Fishing Log, live location sharing and SOS features use your device's location only while you have the app open and have granted permission. Location is used to show your position, record a trip route, tag catches you log, and (if you choose) share your position with people you invite. We do not track your location in the background.
Content you create. Forum posts, replies, photos, catch reports, feedback, and license images you upload to your License Locker.
Notification data. If you enable push or email alerts, we store your notification preferences and push subscription token.
Usage & device data. Basic technical data such as app interactions and error logs to keep the service running.
How we use your information
To provide and operate the app's features; to process your subscription and free trial; to show live conditions and your saved data; to enable community features and moderation; to send the alerts and emails you opt into; to keep the app secure; and to respond to your feedback or support requests.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that make the app work, and only as needed:
Stripe (payments), Google (optional sign-in), Resend (email delivery), NOAA/NWS, ODFW, USGS and other public data sources (we request public conditions data — we do not send them your personal info), and our cloud hosting/storage provider.
Community content: anything you post to the Forum or share to the Catch Feed/map is visible to other users. Catches in your GPS Fishing Log are private unless you choose to share them.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of users.
Location sharing & safety features
Live location sharing and the SOS feature are conveniences, not life-safety systems. Location only updates while the app is open on your device. Always carry a marine VHF radio and a registered EPIRB/PLB and contact the U.S. Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16 in an emergency. Do not rely on this app as your sole safety device.
Your choices & rights
You can edit your profile, manage or cancel your subscription (via the Stripe billing portal), turn notifications on/off, delete your own forum posts, catches and license files, and request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing us. Turning off location permission in your device settings stops all location features.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete content or your account, we remove the associated data, except where we must retain limited records (e.g., payment records) to meet legal obligations.
Children's privacy
Oregon Angler is intended for anglers 18 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and trusted payment/authentication providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice.
